Description:
|
Vehicle Description: Mini vans. One or more of the five bolts that mount the rack and pinion steering gear to the vehicle may have been incorrectly tightened. There could be a looseness in the steering, which may be accompanied by noise or vibration. Dealers will inspect the vehicles and, if the bolts are missing, will replace the steering gear mounting bolts. All bolts will be tightened to the specified torque. Owner notification began November 28, 2000. Owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact Ford at 1-800-392-3673.

Description:
|
Vehicle Description: Mini vans. The affected vehicles may have a second row right hand side captain chair that has inadequate lubrication of the easy entry and exit latch system. In some cases, the actuator spring in the latch could deform after repeated use, causing the latch to remain in the unlatched position. If this occurs, the seat will slide freely on the seat track and the springs on the track will move the seat to the easy entry position toward the front of the vehicle. An unlatched seat track could result in an increased risk of injury in the event of a vehicle crash. Dealers will replace the seat track for the second row right hand side captain's chair, which includes the easy entry and exit latch mechanism.

Vehicle Description: Mini vans. The fuel tank retention strap (two straps per vehicle) can break at the spot welds causing an underbody rattle. There is also a potential for fuel tank separation or fuel leak, increasing the risk of a fire. Dealers will replace the fuel tank retention straps.

Vehicle Description: Minivans. The tail light socket may have been improperly molded, resulting in the locking tab having insufficient force to retain the bulb. If the bulb falls out of the socket, the brake or tail lamp function cannot occur. Dealers will replace the tail lamp sockets.

The Villager is a leaner alternative to the longer-wheelbase minivans and that makes it an appealing choice. It's more compact than the mass-market minivans, so it's easier to park, yet it offers all the flexibility of bigger minivans and nearly as much room.Villager offers clean styling, a commanding view of the road, and a clever interior design with optional captain's chairs. All of this makes it a great alternative to the Dodge Caravan. Though prices roll up quickly when you add all the goodies, the Villager's driving characteristics and flexibility make it a good value. |

Overview:

Mercury has completely redesigned and re-engineered its Villager for 1999. It's five inches longer than last year's Villager, giving rear passengers and cargo more space. A second sliding door readies the Villager for the new millenium. Bins and cubbyholes have been added to make everyday life easier and a unique sliding seat transforms it into a mini-limousine. More power and a quieter engine increase its driving appeal. Still, the Villager offers a leaner, more athletic stance than the other minivans on the market. It's smaller than the Dodge Grand Caravan or Ford Windstar, with dimensions closer to a Dodge Caravan. In short, the 1999 Villager has all the trappings of the big guys, but offers nimble handling and smart styling. Some may miss the extra room offered by a long-wheelbase Ford or Dodge, but others will prefer the Villager's quick reflexes and versatility.
