The National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration (NHTSA) provides 3
different ratings -
full-width frontal crash test
,
side impact crash test
, and
rollover resistance
. The frontal crash test indicates how
well the safety features and restraints
will protect an occupant in a head-on
collision. The side-impact test conveys
the chance of a severe chest injury,
while the rollover resistance rating
estimates the risk of rolling over in a
single vehicle crash.

The Nissan Quest was redesigned for the 2004 model year.

Dummy movement was reasonably well controlled. There was too much upward steering wheel movement. During rebound, the deployed driver side curtain airbag kept the dummy's head away from the B-pillar.
Measures taken from the neck, chest, and both legs indicate low risk of injuries to these body regions in a crash of this severity. A high head acceleration occurred when the dummy's head hit the steering wheel through the airbag, indicating that injuries to the head would be possible.

Measures taken from the dummy indicate a low risk of any significant injuries in a crash of this severity.
Measures taken from the dummies in the two tests, taken together, indicate a low risk of any significant injuries in a crash of this severity.
In both tests, the dummy's head was protected from being hit by any hard structures, including the intruding barrier, by a side curtain airbag that deployed from the roof.
2006 Nissan Quest 3.5SL

The Nissan Quest was redesigned for the 2004 model year. Beginning with 2006 models, changes were made to the side curtain airbags to improve occupant protection in side impact crashes.

Two tests of the Quest were conducted, one with an optional side torso airbag for the driver, and one without (side curtain airbags are standard for all three rows of seats). These vehicles are rated separately, except that the structural ratings and rear passenger injury and head protection ratings for both vehicles are based on both tests.

SEATS:MID/REAR ASSEMBLY
|
|
Description:
|
On certain minivans, there is a seat adjustment mechanism that contains exposed moving components located at the rear inside edge of the second row seat. When the operator attempts seat adjustment, a finger may be pinched in the moving seat adjustment mechanism which could cause an injury. On earlier model vehicles built through June 28, 2004, dealers will replace the inboard second row seat adjustment handle, rivet a plastic reinforcement to backside of the existing seat back cover carpeting, install tie-downs and a flange to the inboard side shield. On vehicles produced from June 29, 2004 through September 26, 2005, dealers will rivet a plastic reinforcement to the backside of the existing seat back cover carpeting, install tie-downs and a flange on the inboard side shield. The recall is expected to begin on December 15, 2005. Owners may contact Nissan at 1-800-647-7261.

New Car Test Drive Review
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Summary:
|
Sporty and innovative.
By John Rettie, NewCarTestDrive.com
The Nissan Quest boasts brisk performance and handling that makes it fun to drive. It's like a Maxima in minivan clothing. Its radical styling inside and out may be a love it or leave it proposition, but the cabin is innovative, roomy and comfortable. Passengers will be comfortable and happy no matter where they're sitting. Opting for the leather upholstery, DVD entertainment system, Skyview roof and other features turn it into a first-class cabin. Early 2004 models suffered quality glitches, but Nissan has since addressed these issues.New Car Test Drive correspondent John Rettie filed the original report from Santa Barbara, with editor Mitch McCullough reporting from Los Angeles. |
|
Overview:
|
The Nissan Quest is the minivan for people who can't bear to own a minivan. Its powerful 3.5-liter V6, the same engine used in the Nissan 350Z, outperforms any other minivan on the road. Its smooth five-speed automatic would be perfectly at home in an expensive luxury car. With crisp steering, responsive handling and good high-speed stability, the Quest is a kick to drive, something that can't be said of many minivans. The Quest is radically styled, with looks that Buck Rogers would have admired. Its space-age styling carries through inside with jetliner-style seats, and optional Skyview glass roof panels. The centrally located instrument cluster is equally radical, often surprising shoppers the first time they sit in the driver's seat. An oval pod in the middle houses the shifter and secondary controls. The cabin is comfortable and innovative. Its back seats are roomier, more comfortable, more functional and more interesting than those in other minivans. The Quest has a longer wheelbase, and is higher and longer than other minivans. It's also one of the most versatile, with a radically arching roofline that contributes to its practicality. Its sliding doors open wider than those on other minivans. It boasts all the latest features, including power sliding doors and a power liftgate, power rear-quarter windows, a sonar park-assist system and overhead mood lighting. With the towing package, it's capable of towing up to 3500 pounds. Quest comes with the latest in safety features, including curtain airbags for all three rows (for head protection), the required frontal airbags, active head restraints, electronic stability control (VDC), traction control (TCS), and anti-lock brakes (ABS) with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist, plus a tire-pressure monitor. Side-impact airbags (for torso protection) are optional. Nissan introduced the Quest as an all-new model for 2004. There are no significant changes for 2006, though new options and improved quality add to its value.
